I am a pacifist by nature.

Spiders and flies love me because when I catch them in my apartment, I spare them and bring them outside.

Life is precious.

Bed bugs though, they need to die. And not by old age or something merciful. By fire.

Why do I hate bed bugs so much?

Well, it’s because of the nature of their attack. I think for most of us, our bed represents a safe haven. It’s our one refuge from the painful realities of the world. It takes care of us when we get sick, and at the end of a long day, it welcomes us back like a good friend. Even if we have nothing else, we still have the comfort of our bed to retreat to and feel warm and protected.

But to a bed bug, oh it doesn’t care that your bed is the one place you feel safe in. To these morally deficient insects, your bed is their dinner table, where every night is an all-they-can-suck buffet.

Ok calm down John. Let’s stay on topic.

So there a lot of news articles and videos talking about the bed bug infestation in Korea right now, due to a heavy increase of overseas travel.

So should you be worried about bed bugs going to Korea?

My opinion: probably not.

I visited Korea for 2 weeks, spending time in 5 hotels in Seoul, Busan, and Daegu, and I did not come across any bed bugs.

My advice would be to book hotels that are well rated, meaning 4.0 and above rating on Google with good reviews, and when you enter a room, always do a quick check for bed bugs before you unpack.

It’s very easy and takes 5 minutes at most. This is how.

First leave your luggage in the bathroom where the bed bugs are least likely to be. Then you lift the bed and inspect the seams for traces of bed bugs. And that’s it!

If you do find any traces, of course report it to the hotel front desk so you can get a refund and find another place to stay.

Hopefully this helped soothe some of your concerns about bed bugs in Korea and you end up having a great trip!
